Darn Tough Socks – Socks for life!

Darn Tough Socks

When you buy Darn Tough Socks, you buy them for life. Darn Tough offers a simple unconditional lifetime guarantee. There are no strings, or conditions that have to be met to get the guarantee. Darn Tough claims “If our socks are not the most comfortable, durable and best fitting socks you have ever owned, return them for another pair.”

Try to get that with those big box store socks. It won’t happen!

Darn Tough Socks are made right here in the USA. They craft every pair of socks at their mill in Vermont. According to their website “There are faster and cheaper alternatives, but nobody ever outsourced anything for quality.”

Once again I am thinking of the multitude of socks that I have purchased from the big box stores that are created overseas. Each and everyone has fallen apart in some way.

Quality & Comfort

  • Darn Tough Socks uses Merino Wool that is shrink-treated to enhance comfort and durability. It’s soft and insulating without adding a lot of extra bulk.
  • Cushioning is built in along the bottom in their socks, or you can opt for a little less with their “micro” version of socks and save a little weight.
  • Blisters…. what blisters? With the Darn Tough Socks you can kiss blisters goodbye! Where I used to get blisters, now all I get are hot spots. This could save you the weight of your foot care kit.
  • Darn Tough Socks offer a Coolmax version that is cool in the summer months, and their Merino Wool is warm in the winter. Every pair is naturally antimicrobial so they will repel the bacteria that causes odors.
  • If your feet sweat, the absorbent Merino Wool wicks moisture away from your feet. In turn you end up with dryer feet, and a more comfortable hike. The Light Hiker Micro Crew isn’t as thick as their regular hikers, and won’t be as hot on your feet.
  • The fine gauge knitting of Darn Tough Socks creates a breathable sock that is fast drying. Even at their wettest, they are still soft against the skin and not abrasive.
  • Elastic is knitted into the arch support of their hiking socks to ensure there is no slipping or bunching. A seamless toe box offers all day comfort.

The Guarantee

If you ever have to replace your Darn Tough Socks, the process couldn’t be simpler. Just wash them (who wants to receive dirty socks), and mail them back to the company along with the warranty form printed from their website. Once they get them, they will ship out a new pair.

The Cons

With all that comfortable goodness and guarantee you knew there had to be a con… right?

Well there is only one, and its the price. Each pair will run you between $18-$25 (at the time of this post). The only way I can justify this kind of price is knowing that if I ever have a problem with my Darn Tough Socks I have a FREE replacement waiting on me.

Because of the price I would suggest just buying one pair until you figure out which one you really love. At the time of this blog post they offered 18 different socks just in the men’s hiking/treking category, and there are eight categories listed under men’s. They also offer seven different categories for women, and three categories for juniors. That is a lot of different socks to choose from.

Until next time…
head out and explore your world,
and maybe, just maybe
you will stumble across the
ol’ Turtle on the trail!
